The Daily Wine Down (11-9)
Democracy Wins
I must admit it still hasn’t fully sunk in that Biden/Harris won the election. Although I know it’s real because I feel lighter and 2020 automatically started to feel less shitty, it probably won’t fully sink in until January 20, 2021 (Inauguration Day). I think I am also being a bit more reserved because of the 2 Senate seats that we absolutely must pick up in Georgia in order to stop Mitch McConnell and his obstructionist politics. He’s already putting constraints on the type of cabinet “he’ll allow”Biden to install in an effort to appease all the Trump supporters and the GOP who let Trump defecate on the Constitution for the past four years. It’s funny how everyone is saying that Democrats basically need to meet Trump supporters in the middle. Where were all these calls for decency and respect as they allowed their guy to institute a Muslim Ban or separate families (some of whom will never be reunited) and lock kids in cages? Or as he allowed one region of the country to burn because they were “blue states”? Or ignore a raging pandemic as it disproportionately affected people of color or initially seemed to hit “blue states” the hardest? Or when he constantly pandered to White Supremacists and even called them to arms on National TV? The list of indecent and inhumane things they have silently stood by and allowed to happen goes on. So they can miss me all the way with this bs victimhood mentality and their hypocritical calls of decency and humanity. By all accounts, we have just elected someone who will do his level best to restore those things back to the office and the White House, which will need to be hella fumigated before he moves in. I also believe Jemele Hill had one of the best responses to this. I’m also waiting to see what the current Idiot in Chief will do over the next two months. We all know he’s not going to remain as quiet as he has been over this glorious weekend. But one thing is for sure, everyone around the world was happy that we will soon be moving on to 46. (NPR)
RIP Alex Trebek (1940-2020)
Jeopardy host, Alex Trebek has lost his epically courageous battle against stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He was 80 years. Sincerely from the bottom of my heart and with every fiber of my being fuck cancer. Now that’s out the way, Jeopardy will not be the same without Mr. Trebek. He will be missed. Peace and love to his family, friends, and fans. (EW)
Who's Got Next?
Since Johnny Depp has been forced to resign from his role as Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts franchise there is now chatter about who should replace him? The talk is at a fever pitch since the 3rd installment in the series is already in production. EW has some interesting takes. I haven’t watched this series since the first movie so I really don’t have a vested interest in who takes over the role. Although I do think it’s weird that they are just now making Depp resign. The allegations against him are nothing new. The case he lost wasn’t criminal, it was a civil suit in which he was the plaintiff. I am in no way defending Depp or the allegations against him, I’m just saying if this is where the studio was headed they should have done this when the allegations first surfaced, years ago. (EW)
Notre Dame Scores Big Ratings With Clemson Upset
I am a HUGE sports fan and an even bigger Notre Dame fan. I ride or die with the Irish and on Saturday night they got some redemption against Clemson after the humiliating Cotton Bowl loss in 2018. Notre Dame (4) upset Clemson (1) 47-40 in double OT. It was a great game that caused my already election weakened heart even more palpitations. On top of the victory on the field, Notre Dame also scored a ratings victory off the field making the Clemson game the most-watched Notre Dame NBC game in 15 years. The victory also moved The Irish to #2 in the polls behind Alabama. Maybe now the critics will start to put a little more respeckt on our name. I doubt it. Let’s Go Irish. ☘️ (Deadline)
Welcome to Cleveland, Whitney & Biggie
Congratulations to Whiney Houston and Notorious B.I.G (Biggie) who were both inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this weekend. I don’t know why I thought both Whitney and Biggie were already in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But they are both there now, deservingly so no matter how belatedly. (The Root)
